Biography

Guadalupe Morales Cano has a degree in Information Sciences, Journalism. She worked more than 15 years in the Spanish national media as an international journalist and in television programs. Graduated in Library Science and Biblioteconomy, and Master courses of Spanish and Latin American Literature at the University of California.

Advocacy in Mental Health

After being diagnosed with a mental health problem, and losing her job as a journalist, because of that, Mrs. Morales promoted the creation of Fundación Mundo Bipolar (2004) and is the Director. This organization is a non-profit national NGO for people with lived experience that fights for the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities, and to have its own voice at national and international level, based on the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Guadalupe Morales Cano was the first person with a mental health problem to be a speaker at the European Parliament and denounce publically the discrimination of persons with psychosocial disability.
Fundación Mundo Bipolar is focused on Recovery and works in Educational programs as those of training peers2peers, and also, peers trained to professionals.

Director of Documentaries: From ill person to citizen and Stigma and mental health

Has a very intense activity in Spain and in the Europe Union: attend to numerous congresses, seminars, workshops, roundtables, etc., as a speaker, organizer, etc.
Currently is:
-Board Member of WAPR (World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation), representing users, (consumers) and member of the Training Committee
-Vice President of ENUSP (European Network of (ex-) Users and Survivors of Psychiatry)
-Board Member of (MHE) Mental Health Europe, the Stigma Section of (World Psychiatry Association) and of the Women´s Committee of European Disability Forum
-Member of the Spanish National Strategy in Mental Health.

o Professor at Universitat Jaume I Castellón. Spain.
Master in Psychosocial Rehabilitation Subject: Stigma and Mass Media
o Coordinator of the Project and teacher of the Course: Education: A tool for Recovery and fight of stigma.
o Coordinator and teacher of Courses in Emergencies in Mental Health.

Had been professor at: University of California, Davis, Universidad Europea, Madrid.
